What is the best part of what you do and why?
The best part of what I do is making things that people cherish. I love that people wear my jewelry for their special occasions as well as hang on to the piece for a long time as keepsakes. It makes me happy to see other people happy when they wear my jewels!
What is the biggest challenge you have faced as an entrepreneur?
My biggest challenge as an entrepreneur has been to keep up with the changing retail landscape. When I started by business in 1999, I didn’t have a website or online shopping yet. Photos were taken on film and Instagram and Facebook didn’t exist. As many of our businesses moved online, it has been an opportunity to learn new skills and meet people I never would have.
What advice would you give your younger self?
I would tell my younger self to listen to my parents and take some business and accounting courses! As a creative, I just focused on making things and didn’t learn the business side of being an entrepreneur until I faced everything firsthand. The learning curve was steeper than it needed to be!
