Laura M., President + Founder
With a background as a Holistic Nutritionist, Vitamin Expert, Essential Oil Teacher, and Wellness Coach, it only made sense for Laura to create a business that encompasses it all. Drops of Gratitude was founded after creating her first piece to gift herself with a reminder to express the love in her life. She strives to promote gratitude and love, while encouraging others to affirm the goodness in their lives. The magical combination of using essential oil aroma, gorgeous earth gems, and the emotions they invoke, creates unforgettable, high-vibe, soul-filling gifts.
What is the best part of what you do?
The best part about this company is the multiple avenues it has. I have taken such a simple concept with aromatherapy jewelry and truly blended it with all the wonderful things I am so passionate about. Not only do we promote the benefits of intentional jewelry, but we educate the amazing benefits that pure, therapeutic grade essential oils has on our emotions and mental health. I also teach workshops on the importance of gratitude and truly slowing down to enjoy and appreciate life. It is the different ways of connecting with people that I truly value the most.
What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs?
My advice to you if you are just starting out or struggling to keep going is this; trust that beautiful heart of yours. Do the thing. Just start. My business was built on tiny little actions each day and it has blossomed into an entire team of people that keep the dream rolling. When I started my business, aromatherapy jewelry was a new concept. Some people scrunched their noses at the idea, and now it is everywhere. I am so glad I trusted my gut and blazed my own trail in what was once a new territory. It has given me the confidence to put my head down, listen to my intuition and do the work that my heart is being pulled to do, without worrying about being judged.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced as an entrepreneur?
Knowing when to take risks. I often get too comfortable doing what is working and not looking too far into the future. I have been able to combat this by connecting to an amazing community of like-minded entrepreneurs. Together we encourage each other to keep growing and it has made a world of difference in my business.
Tell us about an obstacle you were faced with in your life, how did you overcome it?
When Drops of Gratitude was still a small side hustle my husband and I had great paying, full time jobs. Within 48 hours of each other, we lost them both. Back then it was the worst thing that could have ever happened to us. After picking myself up off the floor, I decided right then that I was responsible for my future. I used our job losses as fuel to burn a fierce flame inside me. This determination turned my company into the main source of income for our family. My husband even works full time at Drops of Gratitude now! Now I am so happy it happened; the growth we have experienced in both our personal lives and in our company has been because of the hardships we faced in losing our “safety nets”.
What was the most memorable gift you ever received?
I have two! In my first year of business, my amazing hubby had my logo made into a large piece of glass art that was handcrafted by Rebecca Maher; she is a beautiful artist in Airdrie, Alberta. This gift is so incredibly cherished because it really showed how much my husband believed in me. It now hangs as a reminder to be “all in” whenever I decide to do something.
My second favourite gift is a picture. While hosting a very popular “Transformation Weekend” seminar, my amazing mentor and former business coach had asked anyone in the audience that was wearing a Drops of Gratitude bracelet to come up to the front for a picture. More than half of the room stood up and I now have this amazing photograph of my coach, myself and a whole wack of incredible people who support me.
