Jennea Frischke Jewelry was founded through Jennea’s natural curiosity of how things were made, and inspired by a mix of dreams, personal sentiment, and history. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts with distinction, and a wealth of experience working with a large variety of precious and non-precious materials, she plays an active role in the production of these one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry and wearable art. Every piece that is created begins with creative design and is handcrafted in her Calgary based studio.

Where did the inspiration for your business stem from?

I have enjoyed making jewelry in different capacities from a very early age and went into art school straight out of high school. I have always had an interest in adornment, and ceramic beads were the highlight of my first couple of years of art school. I transfered to the Jewelry and Metals Program at ACAD to finish my BFA and the rest is history.

What is the best part of what you do and why?

I love being able to imagine (and sometimes literally dream up) a piece of jewelry, and then to create that piece and turn it into reality. There is a magic to it that never gets old.

What is your favourite component to your workspace and why?

My favourite component to my workspace is the awesome jewelers bench my Uncle made for me.  It is a very solid piece of furniture and was designed exactly how I wanted it to be. It has lots of drawer storage and a handy peg board, so I can easily see and grab the tools I use all the time.

What did you wonder about when you were growing up?

How everything was made; I loved watching everything getting put together and loved learning how to do it myself  when I had the chance.  This curiosity pushed me into the profession of crafting and taught me the importance of not only knowing how something was made, but where, and by whom.

In your opinion, where is the best place to visit in your city?

Bowness Park.  I somehow only discovered this awesome nature and recreation area in Calgary the last couple of years. It has great trails that go along the river and through huge pine trees,  and fun activities year-round.  There are paddle boats, and a train in the summer.  Ice skating in the most picturesque scenery in the city in the winter. It also has a coffee shop, and a lovely restaurant looking out on the pond.
