Melanie C., Founder

Melanie C., da lish Cosmetics, Founder

Toronto, ON

In her teen years, da lish Cosmetics Founder Melanie, like many others struggled with self & body confidence, severe acne and a learning disability. As she discovered makeup, she learned that something simple as foundation gave her confidence to face her peers. Over time she started to wonder what was in the makeup she was using. Her mom, Rosemary, joined her on this journey and Melanie put them both through school to get certified in creating natural and organic product formulations. Shortly after, Melanie began cooking up lip glosses and multi-purpose tints for herself and friends. She was receiving so compliments on the way her makeup looked and how it was applied, women wanted their own! Gifting turned into calling on retailers and a steady stream of orders, until da lish finally grew into a fully functioning brand with its own manufacturing facility. Today, everything is still made in Canada, under Melanie’s care and attention.

Where did the inspiration for your business stem from?

I used to suffer from terrible acne and it’s been a lifelong struggle for me. Makeup has always been my armour and gives me confidence. I discovered this a long time ago and wanted to clean up my favourite products and share them with other women who could relate to my struggle.

What is the best part of what you do and why?

Helping women is #1 – helping with looking & feeling their best is why da lish was created in the first place. I want to connect, boost confidence and feel good about the choices they’re making.

You learn more from failure than success, and if you have great success – keep passing it forward. Help others achieve it as well. It’s the greatest gift.
