Opportunity International Canada
Opportunity International Canada is a global microfinance charity. Through access to financial services and training, entrepreneurs in developing countries are able to work their way out of poverty and provide for their families, create jobs for their neighbours and build a safety net for the future. Opportunity’s vision is a world in which all people have the opportunity to achieve a life free from poverty, with dignity and purpose.
‘The loan helped my mom. It helped me and is going to help generations after me. It has helped the neighbours in my mom’s community. This is not just momentum, it is an explosion of momentum, with one life touching another. You have no idea how many lives you are touching’.
Second Harvest Food Rescue
Second Harvest is Canada’s largest food rescue charity. They recover and redistribute fresh, surplus food to protect the environment and provide immediate hunger relief for those most in need. Second Harvest also coordinates an online platform, FoodRescue.ca, where food business and local non-profits can connect and coordinate one-to-one donations and picks-ups of surplus food. In 2018, Second Harvest rescued and delivered 12.3 million pounds of food, providing food for over 330,000 individuals experiencing food insecurity.
